Skin Resolutions You Should Keep for 2018

The end of January is here, and it’s about that time for people to flush their New Year’s resolutions down the toilet.

While it’s good to think about new goals for the New Year, it’s important to stick with them.

Sure, I know what you’re thinking, “Oh, whatever, I’ve heard this all before.”

I get it—making goals and keeping them is difficult. That’s why you need to set realistic ones that will be easy to maintain.

Was one of your resolutions to take better care of your skin? It seems like an easy one at first, right? Just cleanse every night, apply treatments and moisturizers, and you’re done.

Let me tell you from experience—that all gets dashed when you walk into your home after a night out and all you want to do is crawl into bed.

I’ve been taking care of my skin rigorously since I was 15 because I had cystic acne, so my skincare routine was non-negotiable. But during college after my acne wasn’t as severe, there were plenty of nights when I’d sleep in my makeup.

Instead of falling off the wagon with your skincare, here are some easy ways you can continue that resolution though 2018.

Cleanse

This is seriously the most important step. I am obsessed with my Clarisonic and Origins face wash, but if you’re someone that can’t keep up that, just keep makeup wipes beside your bed. I love the Neutrogena Night Calming makeup wipes. They’re super gentle on your skin and get all of the makeup off before you hit the sheets.

Mask 2 Times a Week

To be honest, this resolution is so fun, you should want to keep it! Masks help to really treat your skin, and there’s so many different kinds that you’ll be able to find one that suits your skin needs. Plus, it’s an excuse to take 20-30 minutes twice a week for yourself.

Eye Cream

This might seem like an unnecessary step, but it is something that you need to get in the habit of. As we age, the skin around our eyes is more susceptible to damage and wrinkling. It’s good to just start applying some eye cream when you’re younger as a preventative measure. To make this easier, Milk Makeup has an awesome product called Cooling Water that is in stick form. You can just keep it on your nightstand and swipe some on before bed for a blast of hydration for your under eyes. Bonus points—keep it in the fridge for an extra cooling effect.

Moisturize

I used to think because I had acne that moisturizing would make things worse. Well, it’s the opposite. Your skin needs moisture, especially at night, otherwise your skin could go crazy. For me, I reach for a matte moisturizer in the morning and rose hip oil at night for extra nourishment. For a low-maintenance step, I would go with some type of oil because it’ll be easy to apply and give you tons of benefits because oils are usually more concentrated.

Taking on a skincare routine can seem daunting—trust me I know. I used to have tons of steps that took forever to do before I went to bed. In order to stick with a routine, you need to make it easy and manageable.
