I am the type of person who tries to do everything at once, and doesn’t think that I need to make time to slow down.
Such a simple word right? yet we all have such a hard time taking time to do it, myself included. I am the type of person that has two planners, and tries to be the best mom I can be, go to work full time, go to school full time, stay consistent with working out, and eating healthy, staying on top of meal prepping, plus trying to maintain a social life because I love to go out and do things, plus make time to read, and write and do all the hobbies I love. Lets all laugh together in this last sentence nothing about the word rest was mentioned right? I am sure this is how your days look to work, kids, chores, school, other demands and then repeat over and over again and usually we continue to do this until we become exhausted, burnt out, start getting sick more, when really all we need to do is incorporate a little bit of rest into our routine so we don’t get to this point.
WARNING: I still struggle with this, all the time I have to remind myself constantly to slow down, I still make plans that I know I am going to want to cancel later on because I will be exhausted but yet I don’t want to miss out. I am a working progress slowly but surely I am incorporating more rest into my routine.
Here are some things that I do to refresh, to take some time for me, to make some changes so that I am not walking around having to drink twelve coffees a day and still barely making it through the day! Remember everyone is different what helps me, may not help you but taking a few minutes a day to take care of you is much needed. When I add in times to rest to my routine, I feel a lot better, my mood is better, I have a lot more energy, I am a nicer person to be around, and I feel less anxious and anybody who struggles with anxiety knows that’s where its at.
MY REST GUIDELINES:
8 hours of sleep every night
I have a toddler so some nights especially when she is sick this doesn’t happen but for the most part this is a non negotiable I love my sleep.
Stick to a nightly routine
This is so important for the longest time I would feel stressed out at night, I would feel overwhelmed and I would constantly feel like I had so much to get done, and not enough time to do it. Now I make a point to have a routine Dinner, Read with Brielle, Bath Time, then read myself and go to bed instead of scroll till 12:00am mindlessly it has helped a lot.
Get a babysitter atleast every other Saturday for a few hours
This is important, because momma needs a breather. I love being a mom it’s the best thing that has ever happened to me but I need a break, I need a break to be me, and to spend time alone with friends eating good food at brunch and not having to worry about if my child is destroying the restaurant take some time for you, we all deserve it.
Do my Homework in the morning, or at lunch at work
I have been trying to make a point to get up a little earlier each day my goal is 5:00 am but I have yet to reach that LOL, and get my homework done. For the longest time I would do my homework after Brielle went to bed and that does not work for me because I am already exhausted so I cant focus, and I then don’t get enough sleep and then I’m exhausted again the next day. Find little ways to incorporate your responsibilities/demands into your day so when you come home at night not every single thing needs to be done.
SELF CARE NIGHT
Almost every Thursday, I put Brielle to bed a little earlier and I take this time to have a bath bomb/epsom salt bath with some adnrew belle and a cup of tea it is AMAZING. I am telling you taking this 30 minute self care routine every week has made a huge difference. I will never be giving this one up, so relaxing. If you can’t or don’t like baths do something nice for yourself everyday even if its only for 10 minutes a day.
I am starting to read more in the evening, instead of mindlessly scroll at night. I really enjoy reading but I haven’t been doing it as much as I like so I have been changing it up and it makes me feel a hell of a lot more relaxed when I am ready for bed.
Meal Prep + Plan Meals
This saves me so much time and money, really I meal prep once a week so that I am not rushing in the mornings to make my lunches for the day because I won’t do it. I also really like the crock pot and am trying to put something in the crock pot for when Brielle and I come home every night! It’s easy, its delicious, and its convenient and I like that.
I really like to eat good for my body because of how it makes me feel, I hate feeling bloated, tired, and crummy so I choose to eat good most days. BUT I 100 percent believe in balance and I am focused on eating good for my body but not depriving myself, if I am craving something ill have it or if I go somewhere that’s not considered “healthy” I will still eat it. Fuel your body with good things/ingredients so you can feel good , but also treat yourself because I mean self care 😉
I will never ever give up my warm cup of goodness ever. The power of a cup of tea is so underestimated. I have a cup when I first get to work, I have a cup in the afternoon especially because I am over the day and people ha ha and it brings my mood up. Then I have a cup right before bed because it’s the most relaxing feeling.
Hold yourself accountable
When you need rest take it, when you need to say no do it, don’t feel guilty for it, plan in self care, make yourself a priority and rest so you can feel good!
rest looks different for all of us, what makes me feel rested may not be what makes you feel rested. DO what is right for you, your mind, and your body always. Sometimes what you need is to chill in bed, and Netflix binge, sometimes you just need to go to bed a little earlier, sometimes you may need a little more like a day at the spa just remember to always look out for yourself because nobody else is going to! Find your guidelines, find ways to take care of yourself, find ways to feel good always 🙂
